Chopstick Rest
CASTING METHOD
The original plant, food, or other object is encased in investment plaster and burned out. Molten metal is then poured into the cavity. This is not a surface coating: the original form itself is replaced by metal.
Leaf veins, layered petals, dried-sardine scales, and tiny textures can all be captured. Because the original is consumed during casting, each result is a one-of-a-kind metal object that cannot be reproduced in precisely the same form.

ABOUT
KOROMO STUDIO is a project by sisters Mai and Yui Yoshida, successors to YOSHIDA CAST INDUSTRY CO., LTD., founded in 1960. Known as the “Casting Sisters,” we are finding new ways to carry inherited casting expertise into the next generation. Mai works to pass artisans’ skills and livelihoods forward. Yui, who trained as a chef in France, explores how culinary ideas can take form in metal.
Using direct casting from real objects, we capture the thinness of petals, leaf veins, dried-sardine scales, and food textures. Techniques refined for jewelry and industrial components are extended to tableware, commemorative pieces, regional materials, and treasured objects—creating new work for craftspeople and partner workshops.
